Managing director of Sydney Direct Fresh Produce Luke Kohler gives us a rundown on the third annual SDFP Pine Mushroom Trip.

The "Meet The Grower" campaign was started as a way to inform Luke's customers about where their fruit and vegetables come from. We want our customers to feel educated and to make good decisions when choosing their produce. In addition we love to share experiences that get them out of the kitchen and back in tune with nature.

Sydney Direct Fresh Produce is on a mission to create a more positive culture within the hospitality industry and help chefs to relax on one of our many adventures.

This morning we caught up with SDFP owner Luke Kohler to find out more about the challenges he faces day to day running his business.

Luke believes his team's success is due to them all taking a hands-on approach and never being afraid to get their hands dirty to achieve the best results for his customers.

We took the next generation of chefs from the Solotel group on our educational coastal forage from Bondi to Bronte. We kickstarted the day at our usual breakfast hangout Drake Eatery and enjoyed the best avocado and eggs, coffee and juice in Bondi, courtesy of head chef and owner Ian Oakes.

Paul & Maria Bidwell moved to Tasmania from Western Australia several years ago to semi-retire and downsize their operation of growing avocados.

Tasmania's fertile land, cold climate and their expertise have enabled them to provide consumers with high quality, fully mature avocados with a rich, nutty, buttery flavour to satisfy the most discerning taste buds.

Tasmanian chef Massimo Mele took Sydney Direct Fresh Produce owner Luke Kohler to Avoland Avocados to meet the grower and find out some interesting facts about this much loved tropical fruit.

As we hit an abundance of Blueberries in the Sydney Markets at this time of year, it made perfect sense to get educated on these purple super berries from Smart Berrie's farm manager Alex.

Just how does a potato start its life?

We decided to call the potato guru himself, Keith Platt from Great Roots to find out. He invited us to visit his growers and meet key relationships in Tasmania to discover more about the life of a potato.

From the agronomist at Agronico, production at Yum Tasmania and meeting several growers, SDFP owner Luke Kohler got a real insight into the varieties on offer.

By going above and beyond to meet the grower it allows Sydney Direct Fresh Produce to not only build solid relationships but to source the very best potatoes and educate our customers on what they order.

"Meet The Grower" is a campaign that we started back in 2017 and the goal was simple. To build relationships, educate and provide the best Australian produce we can find for our customers.

SDFP owner Luke Kohler has been all over the country to meet Australian growers to discover their processes and produce. From blood oranges, berries, wasabi, truffles, stonefruit, persimmons, herbs, pine mushrooms, chilli and much more.

Luke and the SDFP team are proud to have gone above and beyond any other fruit and vegetable wholesaler in the country so we can provide our customers with the understanding and hard work that goes into the products we deliver seven days a week.

We can not thank our growers enough. Your passion and dedication allow us to provide outstanding fruit and vegetables to our customers.

In 2019 we will carry on educating with "Meet The Grower" and focus on local NSW farms.

This week SDFP owner Luke Kohler made a pit stop in Western Australia with the Suncoast Fresh director Graeme Twine to check out Fruitico.

Fruitico is the leading grower and marketer of table grapes in Western Australia. It was a fantastic experience to see the processes and execution of there operation.

It was a full flavour experience and we can not wait to share this product with our customers.

Just recently we proudly supported The Taste of Sydney with our produce. We supplied some of Australia's best chefs with local fruit and vegetables for their two dishes that got prepared for the public in the Electrolux collective kitchens.

Our latest trip to ”Meet The Grower” in Tasmania with chef Massimo Mele and friends was a huge success.

We can not wait to share our video series of last weeks adventure to Tasmania. Luke and the team covered all things potato, blueberry, herbs and avocado.

Meet The Grower is back.

We will be focusing on local NSW growers in the upcoming months and into 2019. Luke and Ross from Sydney Direct Fresh Produce went on a short trip to Grima’s Farm Fresh Produce to personally pick and collect radishes for one of our customers.

Not only do we go above and beyond to get what our customers want, but we also support our local farmers in the process.
