"MEET THE GROWER" - MOUNTAIN YUZU, VICTORIA

Yuzu Season Begins: A Taste of Japan from the Australian Alps

Let us introduce you to the dynamic duo behind Mountain Yuzu, Brian and Jane, pioneers in growing Yellow Yuzu in Australia.

As we enter April, we're thrilled to announce the start of the Yuzu season, a much-anticipated period that brings a unique citrus delight to our tables. Available for the next three months, our premium 3kg trays and standard 5kg boxes of Yuzu promise an exceptional culinary experience direct from the pristine slopes of the Australian Alps.

The Splendid Source: Mountain Yuzu

Nestled in the foothills of the breathtaking Australian Alps in North East Victoria, Mountain Yuzu is a sanctuary for cold climate culinary citrus, including the sought-after Yuzu, along with Sudachi, Bergamot, and Chinotto. This 20-acre paradise, adjacent to the Ovens River and near Mt. Buffalo in the Upper Ovens Valley, offers more than just spectacular views; it's the perfect terroir for cultivating Yuzu.

A Pristine Environment for Premium Citrus

The Alpine valleys of North East Victoria share a striking resemblance with the mountain areas of Shikoku in Japan, the native land of Yuzu. Combining deep, rich volcanic soils, hot, dry summers, cold, wet winters, and an average natural rainfall of around 1,200 mm per year creates an idyllic setting for these fruits to thrive.

Mountain Yuzu's approach to farming these citrus treasures aligns closely with organic principles, prioritizing the health of the trees and the environment. With a clear stand against harsh pesticides and fungicides, the farm ensures that every piece of fruit meets the highest quality and sustainability standards.

A Journey of Growth and Passion

The journey began in 2012 with the planting of the first 20 trees. Fast forward to today, and the orchard boasts over 1,800 trees, bearing fruits of passion and dedication. The first commercial harvest in 2016 was a milestone, marking the beginning of a flourishing venture into Yuzu and beyond.

While Yuzu remains the star of Mountain Yuzu, the farm celebrates diversity with minor plantings of specialty Italian culinary citrus like Bergamot and Chinotto and the highly prized Japanese citrus Sudachi, eagerly awaiting its first fruitful season.
